March 2, 2021; Shipley, UK – With a vision of removing marine plastic pollution from oceans and seas across the world, HD® Wool Insulation is getting involved locally by joining Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) 250 Club, the corporate membership group within the Cornwall-based environment charity dedicated to the protection of oceans, waves, beaches and wildlife.
According to SAS, 2 million tonnes of marine litter and plastic enter the oceans every year making plastic pollution our new sewage. Wool that is used to make HD® Wool Insulation has been shown to not even be present in the water that leaves the sewage plants and so the creator of natural, biodegradable wool garment insulation is looking forward to joining other SAS 250 club members who share its connection to the ocean and take action to protect it.
“HD® Wool Insulation is proud to join Surfers Against Sewage as the newest member of their 250 Club, supporting this powerful network of business leaders driving forward a movement for change,” said Jo Dawson, Chairman of H. Dawson and HD® Wool Insulation. “As the leading supplier of natural, traceable wool solutions for the apparel, interiors and industrial markets, our vision and values support the mission of SAS to inspire, unite and empower communities to take action to protect oceans, beaches, waves and wildlife.”
By joining SAS, HD® Wool Insulation also aligns with the mission of Sky Ocean Ventures, a £25m impact investment fund committed to accelerating young companies and entrepreneurs who are developing ideas that can help eliminate plastic pollution. Sky Ocean Ventures invested in HD® Wool Insulation in 2019, recognizing that its product can be used as a replacement to synthetic polyester insulation, which can shed micro-plastics that pollute our oceans and rivers.
A growing number of outdoor and fashion brands are adopting HD® Wool Insulation into their product ranges, including Cornwall-based and SAS 250 Club member, Finisterre, who was recently awarded a gold ISPO outstanding award for its new BioSmock made with HD® Wool Insulation. Dawson said that the health of the oceans is near and dear to several members of the HD® Wool Insulation team who surf and spend time on the Cornwall coast – a region that will capture the eyes of the world this June when leading democracies unite to create a greener, more prosperous future at the G7 Summit.
